Great job in the first tournament! We made it to the 3rd place game. Everyone played very well and learned a lot about playing travel basketball as this was the first tournament for all the players. Lots of excitement and a great attitude from all the players is setting the stage for a fun season!

Holy Family 27-19 L Highland Park 26-23 W Westonka 46-18 W
Tourney Record 2-1 Second Place Finish Season Record 6-6
Overall the boys played fairly well after almost a month between tournaments. We made a lot of turnovers and rebounded poorly in the first game which hurt us and we really didn’t show much intensity until the last 2 minutes of the game. Our game against Highland Park was better and you could watch the boys start getting into the flow of the game. The last game against Westonka really showed that the boys were playing well together making great passes and hitting the boards hard. We ended up with a second place finish.
Hopkins Tournament January 19 & 20 Eagan W Hopkins L Orono L
Tournament Record 1-2 (4th place) Season Record 7-8
The boys played very well in our opening game and really worked the ball around to find the open player. We crashed the boards well and shot the ball very well scoring our highest point total of the season. Our second game against Hopkins was a good match up and we played them well. It was a close game all the way and we would like to have another shot against this team. The game for 3rd place against Orono was close throughout the first quarter. This Orono team was very aggressive and pushed the ball up the floor well which we had a difficult time adjusting too. The game quickly got away from us in the second quarter and we never made up any ground from that point on. Overall it was a very good experience to play against some larger schools and learn some key points of sportsmanship.

Milaca Tournament February 9, 2008
24-10 vs. Becker Win 16-24 vs. Braham Loss (OT) 36-26 vs. Milaca Win
Tournament Record 2-1 Second Place Finish Season Record 10-11
This was a tournament that posed some challenges that the boys overcame very well. We found out upon our arrival that the rules had changed and there would be no pressing until the final 2 minutes. Additionally we had to play back to back games from our second to third game. The boys played well and ended up in our first overtime game against Braham. We had our chances but our shots would not drop and everything Braham threw up to the hoop went in during the overtime. After the overtime loss we had a five minute break and then had to play Milaca. The boys played hard and were not going to lose. Great job on a second place finish.
Mounds View Tournament February 23 & 24
40-25 vs. Eagan Win 34-25 vs. Mounds View Win 14-11 vs. Woodbury Win
Tournament Record 3-0 1st Place Champs! Season Record 13-11
This was by far the best basketball that the boys have played. Our press worked very well and the boys played great defense. The championship game against Woodbury was a defensive battle. Our defense gave Woodbury a lot of trouble and caused them to have to change their style of play. Everyone contributed to the success of this tournament. After taking second place in two other tournaments the boys were determined to win this one and fought hard to give their coach a great birthday present, a first place finish. Great job boys!
Rochester Tournament March 1 & 2
Game 1 vs. Lakeville North 22-34 Loss Game 2 vs. Blue Earth 27-14 Win Game 3 vs. Hopkins 19-33 Loss Game 4 vs. Hudson 36-23 Win
Tournament Record 2-2 Season Record 15-13
This was a fun tournament for the team as we played up in the B- division and did very well against some tough teams. Our first game was against a good Lakeville North team that got out to a quick lead as we didn't shoot well the first half only scoring 6 points. Our next game against Blue Earth the team was ready to play and the intensity showed as we jumped out to a seven point lead at the half. The second half was much the same and the boys played extremely well the entire game. Our third game came at 7:50PM on Saturday and we played a Hopkins team that we had played once before. We just didn't have the same level of intensity as we did earlier and the game got away early in the second half. Our last game came Sunday afternoon and our goal was to leave Rochester with 2 wins and the boys made it happen. We jumped out to a 10 point lead at half and never looked back. Overall this was a very good experience playing against some B level teams and the boys can be proud of what the achieved on the court.
State Tournament March 15&16, 2008 at Bloomington Kennedy HS
ER vs. Eagan W ER vs. Eastview W ER vs. Highland Park L
2nd Place Finish at State!
This was a great way to finish up a great year for this group of guys. We made it to the Championship game to play a team we had played once before. The boys played with a lot of heart throughout this tournament as well as throughout the season. Everyone contributed to the weekends success as we took home the second place trophy! Though there were many highlights of the weekend one that will stick out is Alec hitting three 3-pointers in a span of 30 seconds!
This was a very fun season and the boys turned it on in the second half. Some accomplishments this season include: never finishing last at any tournament, going 3-5 against B teams, having everyone score in several games, placing in the top four places in 8 out of 10 tournaments, learning to play as a team, representing our community with pride and great sportsmanship, and most of all having fun and making some friendships that will always be remembered. I am very proud of each one of these players as they all improved, played with heart, and were great to be around. It has been a great season and Congratulations on taking 2nd place at State!
